Job Description

We are looking for a small team of professional retail catering assistants to work for one of the countries most prestigious universities. You will be providing a quality support service to the main refectory front of house manager. Operating over seven days the main refectory was recently refurbished and provides a wide variety of foods and beverages ranging from sandwiches and snacks to main meals starting with breakfast right through until an evening service for both students and staff. Successful candidates will need to be flexible to cover the universities operating hours during term - time. Outside of the terms holidays may be taken and other work provided to fill the gaps. Main Duties

Prepare basic food items to set standards and in line with legislation and University policy, especially the production of sandwiches, ensuring compliance to food labelling regulations. Present food items for service at specified times, that is within their “use by” date and are of a standard suitable for sale. Ensure all stock is within its “use by” or “best before” date, and rotated on a first in – first out basis. Ensure menus and merchandising are presented in the manner required by the Department. Serve at counters in a helpful and pleasant manner, meeting the departmental customer care standard. Check deliveries for discrepancies, quality and temperature in accordance with the food safety Policy. Operate a cash register, take money and vouchers, issue change and reconcile income in accordance with the cash handling procedure. Ensure the areas are secure at all times, especially when handling cash or during unit closure. Collect and return keys to a designated location. Complete accurately all paperwork relating to food safety in accordance with policies. Remove rubbish to external bins at regular intervals, at least daily at the end of service. Carry out all cleaning necessary to meet the University standard, adhering fully to the designated cleaning schedule.
